The Body by Stephen King is the Movie Stand By Me

I recently started reading Different Seasons by Stephen King. Most people know of this book because it starts with Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption which is the basis for the movie Shawshank Redemption. What most do not know is that all four novellas or shot stories in Different Seasons will be major motion pictures after 2020. Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil and The Body have all been movies. The Breathing Method will be a movie in 2020.

So, while reading The Body I started to realize much of the story is similar to Stand By Me. Note that I watched Stand By Me when I was about 10 years old so I don’t remember all the parts of the movie. What I do remember is it was about four middle school aged boys and there were a number of scenes on the railroad tracks. The scene in the book discussing the railroad tracks had me convinced the book was the basis of the movie. I did not remember the movie being in Castle Rock, Maine though.

After doing some research, I found out that the movie Stand By Me is, in fact, based on the Stephen King novella The Body. The movie is based in Oregon but the overall theme is from the book. It is crazy to see just how many of Stephen King’s stories have gone on to be major movies or TV shows. Most of you know that It will come out with Chapter 2 later this year (likely around Halloween) and Pet Sematary will hit theaters in a couple weeks (April 5th, 2019).

There are so many more Stephen King books that could be redone or made into modern movies. I think The Dead Zone is one they need to redo for a Halloween release in the near future. Also, why haven’t they recreated Salem’s Lot in the last few decades? What is your favorite Stephen King book and Stephen King adaptation into a movie?
