Stamey’s BBQ Greensboro, NC Review

Check out my adventure on the NC BBQ Trail here.

On Saturday, February 14th, 2015 I decided to make another stop along the NC BBQ Trail. What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than with a great plate of BBQ, french fries and hush puppies? On this particular day I made the hour trip from Chapel Hill to Greensboro to stop at Stamey’s BBQ. I am glad I made this decision because the food was delicious.

How to Get to Stamey’s BBQ

I always like to take the back, country roads to get to places in the central part of North Carolina. I took Old Greensboro Rd from Carrboro all the way to Alamance County. I would never suggest doing this unless you want to spend about an hour on country roads in the middle of nowhere. There are some great sights to see but it is not the fastest way to get from Chapel Hill to Greensboro. The physical address of Stamey’s is:

2206 High Point Rd, Greensboro, NC 27403
(336) 299-9888

It is right beside the Greensboro Coliseum so make sure to check the event schedule before making a trip out that way. There was a major concert event at the Greensboro Coliseum on February 14th and the parking was $20. Due to the fact that I was eating at Stamey’s I did not have to pay the $20 to park but I can see where this would be a problem if you go during the ACC Basketball Tournament or another major event.

The Atmosphere of Stamey’s BBQ

With so much excitement going on in the area Stamey’s was packed, even at 3:00 pm, when we went. The restaurant allows you to seat yourself so of course I found a booth that suited my fancy. Here are some pictures walking in and the booth we sat in:

How Good is Stamey’s BBQ?

Stamey’s old fashioned barbecue is very good. In fact, I would rate it the highest of the eastern Caroline BBQ I have had on the trail. It is better than Hursey’s. The hush puppies were fantastic and the sweet tea was great. The areas in which Stamey’s was lacking were the french fries and dessert. As you can see from the pictures below, the french fries were basic crinkle fries you can get anywhere and the ice cream for the peach cobbler was soft serve ice cream from a machine. Here is what a meal would look like:

Stamey’s BBQ Menu

The one thing I will say about Stamey’s is they are not complicated. As you can see below, the menu is just a few items which is a good idea in my opinion.

Stamey’s Coffee

I know very little about coffee as I am not a coffee drinker. Below you will see they brew their own coffee and actually sell coffee beans along with all their BBQ sauce and other items such as tshirts and sweatshirts.
